Privacy Policy

Last updated: February 25, 2026

1. Introduction

Welcome to NairaLook ("we", "our", or "us"). We respect your privacy and are deeply committed to protecting it. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and how your data is handled when you use the NairaLook Chrome Extension.

2. Information Collection

We do not collect, store, or transmit your personal data.

Our extension is built on a principle of absolute local processing. The extension operates entirely within your browser on your local machine.

  • No Personal Information: We do not ask for or collect any names, emails, IPs, or identifying information.
  • No Tracking: We do not track websites you visit, links you click, or your browsing history.
  • No Analytic Telemetry: We do not embed silent analytics trackers in our extension code.

3. Required Chrome Permissions Explained

Our extension strictly requests the bare minimum permissions necessary to function:

  • Host Permissions (Read Data on Webpages): This is required solely to allow the extension to scan the text of the webpage you are actively viewing to locate currency symbols (like $ and £) and mathematically convert them into Naira. This DOM scanning happens entirely locally on your machine. The scanned text is never sent back to us or any third-party server.
  • Storage: Used strictly to save your preferred exchange rate window (e.g., Parallel vs. I&E) and cache the latest live FX rates locally so your browser doesn't need to constantly re-download them.
  • Alarms: Used to schedule a background task that quietly refreshes the live FX rates every 30 minutes from our API.

4. Third-Party API Requests

To perform accurate mathematical conversions, the extension periodically makes a purely anonymous GET request to our secure API server (hosted on Vercel) to retrieve the latest live Naira exchange rates. This request contains zero user data or identifiers.

5. Changes to this Policy

If we make significant changes to this privacy policy that involve the collection of user data (which we do not foresee ever doing), we will post the updated policy here and update the "Last Updated" date.
